Mexico were among the early favorites to win the CONCACAF Nations League title and so far, they’ve lived to the billing. They will be taking on Costa Rica in the semi finals, scheduled for Friday and having been the side with the most points at the group stages places them at an advantage ahead of this clash. Mexico are coming from a 2-1 win in a friendly with Iceland, where Napoli forward Hirving Lozano scored both goals, making it four goals in Mexico’s last four matches. With Raul Jimenez yet to get clearance to play after suffering a head injury earlier in the season, Lozano will be the main man again here. Mexico have lost just once in the last 13 matches and have four wins in their last five matches. They won all their four group stage matches, scoring 13 goals and conceding three.

Costa Rica managed six points less than Mexico but still topped their group. They had just one win in the four matches, against Curaçao, drew the other three. The team kept just one clean sheet all through and scored four goals. Costa Rica haven’t beaten Mexico in any of their last seven meetings and with their performance at the group stages, this doesn’t hold much promise for them. Their last meeting with Mexico was in March this year and Costa Rica lost 1-0, marking the third time in five matches they’ve failed to score. In their last eight matches, Costa Rica have no win. They have managed just one win in 14 matches and two clean sheets in the last 15 matches.

Costa Rica have one win in 14 matches.

Costa Rica scored four goals in their four group stage matches.

Mexico won four out of four matches at the group stage.

Mexico have one loss in their last 13 matches.

Costa Rica will struggle to cope with Mexico. They don’t have a great scoring record in this competition and their run against Mexico is also poor. They haven’t won a lot of matches lately, which is in contrast to Mexico’s fortunes. While Mexico were the best performers at the group stage, Costa Rica had the least points gained by a group winner. A comfortable win for Mexico is in the offing here.
